Full definition

Borrowed from advertising measurement, view-through thinking applies when generative answers display a name, logo, or citation that users notice but do not click. Later branded searches, direct visits, or conversions may still be influenced by that exposure.

Unlike ad platforms, AI products seldom provide view-through tags to third parties. Measurement relies on experiments, time-series brand demand, and qualitative user research more than pixel-perfect attribution.

Treat view-through as a hypothesis layer on top of citation and traffic data, not as a precise currency. See Branded Search Lift, Assisted Conversion, and Zero-Click Rate.
