Full definition

The classic local pack shows a map and a few business listings for “near me” and city-qualified queries. AI layers add generated summaries, Q&A, comparative blurbs, or conversational follow-ups that still rest on local inventory, reviews, and geo relevance.

Signals familiar from local SEO—consistent NAP, Google Business Profile (or equivalent) completeness, categories, reviews, and LocalBusiness markup—remain foundational. AI may rephrase or prioritize differently, but fabricated hours or addresses harm trust when users verify in-product.

Brands should monitor both map-pack presence and how assistants describe the business for service-area prompts. See Entity Consistency, Voice Assistant Search, and AI Overview.

Example

A dentist with complete hours, services, and review responses appears in the map pack and is summarized accurately when a voice assistant is asked for “family dentist open Saturday.”
