Zero-Click Search
Definition
A zero-click search is a query where the user gets the answer on the results page itself and does not click through to a website.
Full definition
Zero-click behavior has grown with featured snippets, knowledge panels, and more recently AI Overviews and chat-style answers. The user may still see your brand if you are cited, but session traffic to your site may not occur.
For publishers and brands, zero-click search shifts success metrics toward brand mention, citation, and assisted conversion—not only organic sessions. Strategies include becoming the cited source and capturing demand when users do click for depth.
Zero-click is not always “bad”; some queries were never high-intent visits. See Answer Engine and AI Overview.
