Full definition

Claude refers both to Anthropic’s models and to products (web chat, API, workspace features) that run those models. Like other assistants, Claude answers from training patterns and, when enabled, from retrieved documents, browsing, or project-scoped knowledge rather than from a single website index alone.

For AI visibility, Claude is another answer engine surface: category prompts, comparison questions, and “recommend a vendor” queries may mention or omit brands based on public signals and retrieval. Teams often include Claude in prompt batteries alongside ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Publishers express crawl preferences for Anthropic agents (for example ClaudeBot) in robots.txt. That is separate from whether a human pastes a URL into a conversation. See ClaudeBot, GEO, and AI Crawler.

Example

An SEO tests the same unbranded prompt in Claude and ChatGPT on the same day, logging brand order and factual errors about pricing or features.
