Full definition

Freshness matters for queries where change is expected—pricing, APIs, regulations, product features. Signals include visible “last updated” dates, accurate lastmod in sitemaps, changelogs, and removal of obsolete claims.

Stale pages can still rank or be retrieved, but they raise hallucination and trust risk when models repeat outdated numbers. Freshness is not a reason to churn text cosmetically without real edits.

GEO and SEO both benefit from maintaining living docs on volatile topics. See Content Decay, lastmod, and Fact Consistency.
