Platforms such as Cloudflare Workers, Fastly Compute, and similar products let teams rewrite URLs, inject headers, A/B test, authenticate, or generate responses at the edge. Latency is low because execution is geographically distributed.
Edge logic can improve SEO operations—adding X-Robots-Tag on staging hosts, normalizing trailing slashes, or serving localized content—but mistakes can create soft 404s, duplicate URLs, or cloaking-like splits between user agents if misused.
When used carefully, edge workers support fast SSR-like responses and clean crawl signals for both classic search and AI bots. See CDN Caching, X-Robots-Tag, and Server-Side Rendering.
