Full definition
Common Crawl publishes large public web corpora. CCBot collects pages for those snapshots; many model-training and research pipelines consume the data downstream even though CCBot is not a chat product itself.
Publishers opt out of Common Crawl collection with robots.txt User-agent: CCBot Disallow rules when they do not want inclusion in those datasets. Allowing CCBot means public URLs may appear in future crawls.
AI training opt-out strategies often include CCBot alongside proprietary training agents because of this indirect dataset path. See Training Crawler, AI Training Opt-Out, and Training Data.
